I don't really have anything I can try this out on, but try an Inception approach! A blur within a blur! Blur your MC, then make that into another MC and blur that one too! You'll end up with 2 blurs, but each will individually blurring less. Maybe do it like 4 or 5 times to add up to the amount of blur you need.
Yes, I did just make this solution up and have not tested it. But if it works then I guess I'm just a genius!!

What I can think of:
- Low quality
- Only blur as much as necessary
- Making it an image
Although you probably knew that already. Hopefully someone gives a masterful answer.
