I can't help you too much on that, I just know that ProTools is the software used by many professionals in the voice acting biz. They told me once it's the standard in that area.
If you want strings, why not use VST instruments or even better sample libraries?
As for sample libraries, you'll need the "Kontakt player" software by Native Intruments to load the sample libraries. Good sounding string sample libraries are L.A. Scoring Strings, Hollywood Strings and many other, I can't remember them right now but these are about the best ones (but not that cheap).
